Fiber Coupled Compact Laser with Display

Fiber Coupled Compact Laser with Display

World Star Tech’s Fiber Coupled COMPACT integrates a temperature-stabilized laser diode, control electronics, and an on-board touchscreen in one portable, low-profile enclosure. Output is delivered through Polarization Maintaining (PM), single-mode, or multimode fiber, with an optional collimator for a ready-to-use free-space beam. Connect the fiber, set your parameters on the screen, and start working, with no external driver and no alignment.

Wavelengths: 405, 450, 488, 505, 520, 528, 532, 561, 594, 635, 642, 658, 785, 830 and 850 nm. These are available at many output powers. Custom wavelengths and OEM integration are available. Contact us to discuss your requirements.

A circular fiber coupled beam
Laser diodes emit an elliptical beam that corrective optics cannot make truly round. Fiber coupling fixes this at the source. Single-mode and PM fiber carry only the fundamental mode, so the output is a circular, near-Gaussian beam regardless of the diode’s native shape. The fiber also acts as a spatial filter, removing higher-order mode content and decoupling your optical path from the laser’s mechanical alignment.

This matters wherever beam symmetry drives performance:

  • Confocal and fluorescence microscopy: a symmetric, diffraction-limited focus that matches a circular pinhole.
  • Flow cytometry: a known, symmetric input to beam-shaping optics for a predictable interrogation spot from unit to unit.
  • Optical tweezers: equal trap stiffness in both lateral axes.
  • Interferometry and microscopy: a clean, spatially filtered reference beam.

Full control on the device
Adjust laser power, temperature, and modulation directly on the touchscreen, with live readback of operating parameters and no software required. For automated or scripted work, the same controls are available over USB, SPI, and I2C. The built-in power and temperature scanning mode maps laser behaviour across operating points, so you can find the lowest-noise settings before committing to a long measurement.

Why temperature control matters
Diode wavelength shifts with temperature, and output power and fiber coupling efficiency drift with it. The integrated thermoelectric cooler (TEC) holds the diode at a fixed setpoint, keeping wavelength and fiber output power stable over long runs and through changes in environment. This keeps Raman peak positions and filter passbands aligned, and keeps signal levels repeatable in cytometry and imaging.

Applications

  • Research microscopy: fiber-delivered, circular excitation for confocal, fluorescence, and TIRF setups.
  • Raman spectroscopy: a temperature-stabilized wavelength, set and monitored from the front panel.
  • University and teaching labs: self-contained and simple to operate.
  • Optical tweezers: a symmetric Gaussian focus for uniform trapping.
  • Interferometry and holographic microscopy: a clean reference and object beam.
  • Flow cytometry development: evaluate wavelengths and power levels before instrument integration.
  • Fiber optic test and alignment: a stable, adjustable source for coupling and component testing.
